new star alert: justice macro
There is a specific kind of magic that happens when you stop looking for talent in the bright lights of the big city and start listening to the heartbeat of our smaller towns. During a recent Magitare So Creative session in Kadoma, held at the stunning Avodah Cafe, I witnessed one of those “lightning in a bottle” moments that reminds me why we do what we do.
My colleague Tariro neGitare and I had just finished our sessions, soaking in the creative energy of the room, when a young man stepped forward. His name is Justice Macro.
He pulled out a humble acoustic guitar—the kind that looks like it has stories etched into its wood—and began to play. What followed wasn’t just a performance; it was a revelation.
Local Flavor, National Appeal
Justice possesses a rare gift: the ability to weave beautifully comical lyrics with sharp, observational storytelling. His songs are deeply rooted in the soil of Kadoma, yet they carry a relatability that would resonate in any corner of Zimbabwe. He captures the quirks, the struggles, and the humor of our daily lives with a lyrical wit that caught us all off guard.
It’s one thing to play the guitar; it’s another thing entirely to make a room lean in, laugh, and see themselves in the music.
The Serenade of Highbury Lodge
If you want to catch this star in the making, you don’t have to look far. Justice is a regular fixture at Highbury Lodge, where he can often be found serenading guests. He has also carved out a unique niche for himself as a “musical messenger.” On special occasions—like the upcoming Valentine’s Day weekend—he is frequently booked by loved ones to deliver surprise serenades, acting as a living, singing gift for women across the city.
Why #VisitKadoma is Watching
As part of our #VisitKadoma initiative, we are constantly looking for the “signatures” that make a place unique. A city isn’t just defined by its buildings or its history; it is defined by its voices.
I believe a star was born to us that day at Avodah Cafe. Justice Macro represents the raw, untapped potential that lives in our rural and peri-urban hubs. He is a reminder that dreamers are everywhere, and sometimes, all they need is a guitar and a platform to show the world what they’ve got.
We cannot wait to see how far this dream takes him. Justice, the stage is yours.
